One of the hipster places that got really popular in Riga in the last few years, cafe/bar “Gauja” offers you a chance to experience a real feeling of the 80s Soviet flat. Everything inside, starting from wall paintings or furniture, vinyl players, books or pictures on the walls are very retro.
While the Gauja is a tiny café, it is not to be missed if you are looking for a peek at alternative Riga. The Gauja is one of the city’s hot spots for unconventional people. This is where you can almost always find local hipsters, artists and musicians. Keeping the hipster trend high, every now and then “Gauja” provides space for art, music or even poetry events.
The “Brenguļu beer” (Brenguļu alus) is a must to try, both dark and normal versions. This beer that comes from a local independent Latvian brewery got really popular recently. They also have a free WiFi there.
