Steph, our guide, was absolutely brilliant. Picked us up from our hotel and told us all about Riga on the commute to and from the bobsleigh track. The g-force bobsleigh was amazing (it feels like a roller-coaster) and we didn't have to wait long. There's also an observation deck where you can view the national park.
The only downside was an error by the office staff overcharging us for the experience, which put a downer on the day, as I was told I wasn't able to do the bobsleigh unless we paid more. This was eventually resolved by the owner when he apologised for the error and confirmed no further payment was needed. I advise you pay the balance in full before the trip to avoid incompetent staff trying to overcharge you.

e booked a 3 day Berlin- 3 day Riga holiday through the Daily Mail. The holiday was arranged by Broadway Travel/ Travel Interaction who advised that they were an intermediary for Miki Travel.

Our Berlin stay was excellent the Hotel Berlin Mark which was was very good. On Saturday 23/3/19 we transferred to the Rixwell Terrace Design Hotel in Riga listed as 4 star luxury hotel 10 mins walk from Riga Old Town.

On arrival at the hotel the receptionist was polite but appeared disinterested and at times I felt she was unhelpful. The first statement she made was “you must not forget to pay for the airport taxi they had arranged”. The lift is a small 2 person lift whereby it is only possible for 1 person to use with 1 piece of luggage at a time. The Bar is an small basement area adjacent to the reception desk whereby the majority of drinks are stacked in an upright refrigerated drinks cabinet opposite the reception desk. The receptionist advised that we should use our minibar in our room. We were not allowed 2 key cards to the room door as ‘”it is not allowed”.

The breakfast restaurant is in an adjacent building.

Our room was on the 3rd floor and can be described in part as spacious, although the bed was hard up against the wall meaning that whichever of us slept on that side would literally have to climb over the second person. The room was cold even though it had a hot water radiator which was inadequate for the size of the room, and whilst the hotel advertises ‘air conditioning’ which I wanted to used the ‘heat pump’ to supplement the heat in cold room I was empathically told ‘no’ as the air conditioning was only allowed in the summer. There is a kettle in the room but now having been told the reason why there was no other tea or coffee making facilities is our room was that our room was an ‘economy’ room. Economy and 4 star luxury do not normally go together. Tea bags are available from the reception at 1 euros a bag but you cannot get any milk or sugar I was advised to go to a local shop. Not a major issue but the TV remote control did not work although the receptionist told me that I needed to hold down the ‘on’ button longer. This hotel is not a 10 minute walk to the Old Town and having decided after 2.5 hours this hotel was not what we were expecting and certainly did not live up to its advertisement. We left the hotel and booked us into another on nearer to Riga Old Town.

Broadway Travel made it crystal clear that they are only an intermediary and that I should have contacted them at the time and not afterwards as per their contract and Miki have offered £56.59 as a goodwill gesture. There are 2 sides to every story and this one is mine, I will leave you to make your own judgement if you are looking at this hotel as a venue..
