LIDO Dzirnavas (meaning LIDO “The Mill” in English) is one more restaurant of the popular LIDO restaurants chains.

Located on Dzirvavu street, hence the name, looks like it is a sister restaurant of LIDO “Alus Seta”, located in the Old Town. Interior is very similar, with the same Latvian traditional wooden furniture, historic kitchen equipment as part of decor, but is bigger in size (three rooms able to fit quite many people in) and might even look more like a serious restaurant rather than “Alus Seta” with its little selection of food.

Its huge buffet of Latvia traditional food goes along number of rooms, each of those best fit for either fish, meat or veggie fans. It also has a special lunch buffet (from 12.00 til 16.00) with a special price of 2 Ls for the 3 course set-meal. Bargain!

In general, LIDO Dzirnavas is one of our favorite eating-spots in Riga, well fit for a quick lunch, cofee as well as a decent evening meal. However don’t try to substitute a restaurant with that, it is still a LIDO, created for eating pleasure, rather than a a restaurant’s atmosphere.

Steph, our guide, was absolutely brilliant. Picked us up from our hotel and told us all about Riga on the commute to and from the bobsleigh track. The g-force bobsleigh was amazing (it feels like a roller-coaster) and we didn't have to wait long. There's also an observation deck where you can view the national park.
The only downside was an error by the office staff overcharging us for the experience, which put a downer on the day, as I was told I wasn't able to do the bobsleigh unless we paid more. This was eventually resolved by the owner when he apologised for the error and confirmed no further payment was needed. I advise you pay the balance in full before the trip to avoid incompetent staff trying to overcharge you.
