A nice and cosy little hostel in the heart of Old Town located on Jāņastreet. It could be easily missed when walking by, so hidden it is, but once inside you will be surprised how cosy and welcoming this newly renovated hostel is.
Red Nose positions itself as a family friendly, anti-party place, hence they still don’t have a communal lounge, where usually all The Hangover movie style parties usually begin. However a little kitchen will provide you with all necessities – breakfast, lunch and coffees.
It can accommodate up to 30 people, with rooms of different size and capacity – some may fit in 4 or 8, some just 2, which is perfect for families who are traveling to Riga and want to stay on a budget. Price tags are also not so high – with 15 LVL highest you will pay per night, and average price would vary around 7-8LVL per dorm bed per night.
Those who are looking for an alcohol won’t find it in Red Nose either, it’s an alcohol free hostel, but if you are after a fun and boozy night – helpful staff member will always guide you to the best spot in Riga, or check out all the range of bars around you on Riga Guide bars sections.
Guided tours and tours outside Riga can also be arranged separately if you ask the staff members. Talking of whom – they are super lovely, and have helped loads of guests in the last few years who were losing their passports, needed a transport arranged or wanted to book a hostel in other town. And if you feel lonely and want to stay inside duringe the day, they will offer you company and talk to you until you feel better. Tested!
Busiest period is from April and up to the end of August, so we would assume that you should book in advance if you are coming over spring and summer periods to Riga.
Red Nose will be getting a new mansard section, so very soon there might be a new lounge/tea room opened there. The usual crowd staying in this hostel are middle aged people, couples and a lot of returning visitors of Riga are choosing this place, but again to remind you – no parties allowed inside.
All the staff speaks very good English and Russian. It’s equipped with cameras, lockers and it’s very safe for passports and documents. In case you want to get some extra heat, an electric heater is available on request.
In general Red Nose is a very nice hostel that we would recommend to many of our 28+ aged friends who are coming to Riga for a short stay. But what makes this place the best is the staff – pure gem.
