Lidojoša Varde (“The Flying Frog”) is predominantly a lunch spot in the Quiet Centre district of Riga, which you can easily see when you show up on a summer afternoon and it’s completely packed. During summer, a place on the shaded terrace is definitely worth fighting for, though – or making new friends for, which shouldn’t be too hard as the Flying Frog is quite popular with ex-pats and white-collar workers from the nearby offices and embassies.
The menu is fairly standard international cuisine, including pastas, pancakes, salads, burgers, grilled dishes, and of course its famous desserts. In the evening, the frog-filled restaurant becomes a hangout for ex-pats and locals alike, serving beer and other drinks until about one in the morning. You will also find a lot of students from the nearby SSE Riga University and it is becoming quite popular with hipsters too!
Make sure you try some great famous beers that The Flying Frog is offering.
