For centuries, Jurmala has been a favourite resort for residents of Riga and tourists, thanks to the sandy seaside, piny woods, the mild climate and the healing springs. Today Jurmala is the biggest resort city in Baltic. Stretched along the coast for 32km Jurmala is beloved by locals for its closeness (20 minutes by car from Riga), ex-USSR for nostalgia and west tourist for affordability and quality of service.
The most bright and unique element of Jurmala is its architecture of the 19th century and a half of the 20th century is a significant predominance of wooden houses. Cocert hall “Dzintari” was built in 1936 by architects A.Birznieks and V.Melenger. The building is an architectural monument of architecture.
Throughout the season, there are concerts, attracting famous performers from around the world. Every year during the summer “New Wave” competition for young performers is taking place.
